Women are both blessed and cursed when it comes to fashion. They can choose from hundreds of different garments, such as jeans and hot pants. On the other hand, they have to agonise over all these choices. It can make picking just a single outfit an ordeal in itself.

If you are the type of person who isn't quite sure what they should be wearing in public, read on. We'll show you the importance of knowing who you are, and the various aspects of knowing who you are.

Fashion is an extension of both your environment and your personality. It's not about standing out for the sake of standing out. It is about fitting in, whilst bringing something new to the table.

How Old Are You?
Your age does play a part in determining what you can get away with wearing. For a start, you are not going to get away with slipping on a skater dress if you're over the age of 50. Sorry, but no matter how much you want to recapture your youth, it's just not going to happen.

There's such a thing as being youthful without dressing as if you are still a youth. Look at the current fashions for your age group. You can come up with your own take on them, but you should not be dressing like someone 30 years older/younger than yourself.

What You Do and Where You Wear It
Consider your profession. A significant number of your outdoor activities will involve your profession or something connected to it. It's just the way it goes. You need to match the fashions of someone befitting your occupation.

Of course, if you're working as a waiter or another job that you only do for money and nothing else, do what you want. You're not forging a career in that profession, so you can ignore this part.

On the other hand, if you are working as part of a high-flying law firm, wearing crop tops and jeans is not going to go down well. In this case, you'll need to be elegant and classy if you are going to make the right impression.

Your inner thoughts and feelings are just as important as what you do and where you are.

Your Lifestyle
Everyone has a different lifestyle. Some of us grow up in the country and some of us grow up in the city. Fashions in the city will differ from the fashions in the country. It's unwise to ever mix in items from a different lifestyle to yours.

Stilettos will not go down well on the farm. Likewise, overalls worn by someone who isn't trying to be iconic in the middle of the city streets will not work either. You have to consider where you are and where you're going to be wearing your outfits.

What about Personal Style?
Overall, your personal style is something you'll build up over time. It will change as you change. What you wear as a student will look nothing like what you wear when you begin building your career. Accept change and don't try to be different for the sake of being different.
