Global warming is attributed to several problems, such as changes in weather patterns and is a real threat to animals living on this planet. No place in the world has been spared by the detrimental effects of global warming and environmentalists are warning that the worst is still to come. No doubt, governments have tried to come up with ways to reduce the greenhouses gas emissions to minimize the disastrous effects of global warming. The auto manufacturers have not been left behind by this green wave and have come up with eco-friendly cars that are mostly hybrids.

Hybrid vehicles usually store energy within the battery, which ensures that they use less fuel. Instead of using the gasoline energy that is associated with more emissions, these cars use the electric motors. When coasting, their battery is charged by the energy from the electric wheels and also run on the electric motor. Due to the way they operate, hybrid cars are associated with fewer pollution and emissions, meaning that they do not contribute a lot to global warming. In addition, hybrid vehicles use less fuel, so customers will spend a smaller amount on gasoline compared to conventional vehicles.

Honda is among the auto companies that have ventured into green vehicles. Over the years, it has produced models with excellent performance to fulfill the demands of its environmental friendly customers. The demand for Honda hybrid vehicles has been driven by their cost saving and environmental friendly aspects. Honda’s efforts to go green and contribute to environment sustainability have not gone unnoticed and have been rewarded by various organizations. Recently, the automaker received an award from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy recognized several cars from the automaker including the Honda Civic Natural Gas, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Odyssey and Honda Insight. All the four vehicles earned a place in the 2014 list of the “Greenest and Greener Vehicles” of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. ACEEE comprehensively analyses the environmental performance of every vehicle and accords it a green score. They then rank each of the vehicles that were analyzed through measuring factors, such as fuel-economy, upstream emissions, health impacts that are related to pollution and global warming.

Honda was finally recognized for its environmental conservation efforts this year by four of its vehicles landing in the top 12 in the “Green Book Online” by the ACEEE. The Honda Civic Hybrid held the fifth position in this ranking, while the Civic Natural Gas was the ninth, and the Insight followed in number ten. This was such an honor for the automaker that had worked tirelessly over the years for a greener planet. The ACEEE ranked the Odyssey in the topmost position in the minivans category in the “Greener Choices of 2014.”

No doubt, Honda deserves ACEEE recognition given that it has invested a lot of money in environmental innovation. It was the first automaker to introduce the first hybrid car in the American retail market in 1999, known as the Honda insight. In 2002, the company launched Honda FCX, which was the first fuel-cell electric car within the American market. In addition, it also launched the 1st gasoline car with lower emission standards to the consumers known as the 1996 Honda Civic. Lauding the recognition by ACEEE, the vice president of the Honda Environmental Business Development Office, Steven Center, said that this was recognition of the automaker engineers who had tirelessly to achieve the goals of the company. He also revealed that ACEEE had continuously recognized the efforts made by Honda over the last 16 years to manufacture diverse models that included alternative fuel and fuel efficient vehicles.
