How important is your skin? This is question that each of us must ask ourselves. Especially, when you consider that skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer. It is estimated that over a million new skin cancer cases occur annually. Professionals in the industry believe that almost half of Americans who live to be sixty-five will have skin cancer at least once in their lives. Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer is more common than lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer! Skin cancer is basically skin growths with varied causes and degrees of severity. There are three common malignant skin cancers diagnosed in patients. Basal skin cancer, Squamous cell cancer, and Melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common of all the forms of skin cancer. Ninety percent of skin cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S are attributed to this type of skin cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma is a cancer that originates in the squamous cells which are found in the tissues that form the surface of the skin, the lining of the hollow organs, and the respiratory and digestive tracks. This provides many platforms for this cancer type to arise. Melanoma is less common than the skin cancers already mentioned, but by far is the most serious. According to statistics, over 8,000 people died in the United States because of is skin disease. Generally developed on the epidermis, skin cancer is usually easily detected as the tumors become quite visible. Fortunately, skin cancer has a far less mortality rate then other cancers that attack the body.
