Recruiting on Facebook: Getting Started
Facebook is by nature a more personal social network then twitter or linkedin. With that in mind, the best tactic for recruiting via Facebook is to create a company page. This way, users can follow your company updates and posts without worrying about exposing their personal lives to potential employers. Here are a few tips for establishing an effective company page.
- Since you can’t directly interact with Facebook members in order to attract them to your Facebook page (unless they’re your friends), it’s important to advertise your page elsewhere, such as on your website. A “like” button strategically placed on your site allows visitors to follow your Facebook page without even leaving your site. Also include links to your Facebook page in your emails and job posts.
- Your activity on your company Facebook page will primarily consist of statuses, but these can take a wide variety of forms. Keep in mind that Facebook is a little more informal than, say, LinkedIn. Post interesting links to articles and blogs, ask questions, post pictures and videos, and occasionally advertise a open positions.
- When people comment on your posts, make sure you reply with your own comment. People like to know they’re being heard.
- Facebook is a great place to give followers a little insight into your company, so don’t be afraid of introducing team members by posting a photo, showing off pictures from a fun company event, or sharing pictures from any philanthropical activities.
Much like Twitter, Facebook is a valuable tool for keeping your company top of mind in followers who will be looking for a job in the future or who know people they can refer to you. Staying active and interesting makes you stand out as a social media savvy expert in your field, and gives your followers a reason to visit your website.
