Can anything be done if you've had really bad water damage to your favorite expensive carpet? Well, the answer is, absolutely yes! The only exception to this is if the water damage also involved sewage, as it might for example in a flood, in which case the whole carpet and underlay should be disposed of and the floor sanitized.

It the damage is just from water, even dirty muddy water, help is at had. Modern carpet restoration skills and techniques can do wonders.

There are a few things you can do to help yourself while you wait for the experts to turn up. First and obviously (although things aren't always obvious in a crisis), find the source of the water and turn it off. If it's a burst or damaged pipe or water storage tank, you'll need to find the stopcock and turn that off, if it's an overflowing washing machine or dishwasher, you might also want to turn the electric power off for safety's sake until you can unplug the machine and turn off the water supply. If the water damage was the result of putting out a fire, you may have to wait for the fire service to give you the OK before you start doing anything to put things straight.

If you have a Wet Vacuum, you can suck up some of the water, or maybe you can mop it up. If you're insured, the carpet guys are going to be along with the big suckers, dehumidifiers and air movers soon, but in the meantime you can probably make yourself feel a bit more comfortable about things if you start your own cleanup. If you can, move furniture out of the room, this will help get going with the cleanup faster, and also you'll be able to start any drying the furniture needs. Try not to walk too much on the carpet while you are waiting for the experts arrive.

Whatever you do, don't hesitate to call us in a carpet cleaning company as soon as possible. If you have insurance, it's very likely that the cost of carpet restoration will be covered in it. If not, it's still cheaper than buying a whole new expensive carpet. And water damaged carpet not only looks bad, it can be dangerous to your health as well, so let the experts do the clean up and dry out job for you.

No matter how bad the damage looks, the carpet restoration guys can have your carpet looking as good as new, with minimum fuss and maximum expertise.
