You have hired a housekeeping service to clean your place and now they are about to visit your house for the first time and you are wondering what kind of preparation, if any, you need to do before they arrive. There are definitely a few things you can do to prepare yourself, the cleaning staff and your house for the hired home cleaning service and make sure that the cleaning process is more productive and efficient.

However, you also don’t want to wind up doing part of their job for them. So if you feel the urge to give the counter top a quick wipe, or to make your bed or clean the stove before the home cleaning service comes knocking at your door, fight the urge. The whole point of hiring a housekeeping service is to take off the burden of thorough cleaning off your hands and not to burden you with tidying up before they arrive.

One thing you must remember though is that the maids or cleaning staff is there to clean your house and not to organize it. The first thing you must do before the maids arrive is to pick up and organize the unruly paperwork, clothing, toys, books, shoes or other household items that would clutter their workplace, thus, saving them time and letting them get straight to business when they arrive. Further, if you leave things cluttered up or lying on the floor, the maid or cleaning help may not know where the things belong and might just put them somewhere else so that they would not get in the way of their job i.e. sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, etc. and not actually put them away in a sensible place as it is not their job.

You must also make sure that you pick up the things you would not want damaged during the cleaning process and put them away. Also do not leave any important documents, papers or bills lying around, as the cleaning staff may mistake them for trash and throw them away. It isn’t a common occurrence but it is better to stay precautious. If you do leave something around and don’t want it to be touched, it is better that you give the necessary instructions to the maid or cleaning staff beforehand.

If you have any special house cleaning service requests that are particular to your house or requirements or any other special requests including cancellations, it is advisable that you discuss in advance so as to ensure that there is no confusion or misunderstandings and that the request is properly communicated to the cleaning staff. This will also ensure that there is no confusion regarding the costs or the length of the visit of the cleaning staff later on.

The housekeeping services usually provide their own equipment and cleaning supplies to be used by their staff while cleaning your house. But if you want your own cleaning supplies or equipment to be used then make sure that everything needed is stocked and easily accessible.
