About the Cayman Islands

Size and Location
The islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are located in the western area of the Caribbean Sea. Situated near both Cuba and Jamaica, the largest island, Grand Cayman, is approximately 22 miles in length and up to 8 miles in width. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, the smaller, less popular islands, are both 1 mile wide and between 10 and 11 miles in length.
Weather and Water Temperature
One of the best things about the Caribbean is the wonderful weather. The climate in the Cayman Islands is superb, and this is one of the many reasons why visitors love to come here. The average temperature in the winter months is 24 degrees Celsius, or 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and this raises to 30 degrees Celsius, or 85 degrees Fahrenheit, in the summer. The water at the many beaches is typically between 75 and 85 degrees, making this the ideal spot to escape from cold winter weather to.
Driving
Tourists who wish to drive while in the Cayman Islands must purchase a Visitor's Driving Permit. This permit is inexpensive, roughly between $10.00 and $20.00, and remains valid for the duration of the vacation, or up to 6 months after purchase. Driving is done on the left side of the road, as Cayman is a British territory, and those who already possess an International Driver's License are exempt from needing the permit. This information is especially useful for those looking to rent a car in Cayman, as this is an easy, recommended way to get around in the islands.
Tipping
Tipping is an accepted practice in the Cayman Islands that, in many situations, is expected. The drivers of taxicabs typically expect between 10% and 15% as a tip, and the same can be applied in restaurants. However, many restaurants add a gratuity charge of up to 15% directly to customers' bills.
Attractions
There are many other great attractions in the islands for travllers who enjoy both leisurely retreats and staying active. Tourists can explore one of the most popular locations in Grand Cayman, Seven Mile Beach, and lounge on the sand or play a game of volleyball. The more adventurous can visit the Cayman Turtle Farm or Stingray City, or go snorkeling or scuba diving at one of the many amazing dive sites. There is also an abundance of historical sites, cultural museums, restaurants, bars and shops to explore.
