I am forty two year old and waking up that morning with a tender bust, happily convinced myself, yes, this was it, the dreaded "change" which to be honest I was quite sceptical about, all the horror stories, I mean no more once a month! Hurrah surely it can't be that bad.

So off to the chemist to buy some oil of evening primrose (my mother swore by it).  Anyway for some reason unbeknown to myself, I found myself looking at the pregnancy tests, and on impulse bought the two items. So off I toddled to the loo upstairs in TJ's,  sat down (contemplating how great my new found freedom was going to be) and absentmindly did the proverbial "pee on a stick". As the + sign showed well, you could have knocked me down with a feather OH NOOOO!  The one night of my birthday (drunk of course) and it had to happen. What on earth was I going to do?

Then to cap it all I found out that I was 6 months13 days gone (kick a man while h'es down why don't you!). Did I even have time to do the nesting period, I'vee never decorated a room so fast in my life which is no mean feat when the wardrode traps you after the wheel fell off!

But seriously I thought long and hard about doing this again, was I too old, could I keep up would I be the oldest mum in the playground and be called granny instead of mummy ? I've got two grandchildren! The irony was that my daughter was pregnant at the same time (fantastic, I'm asking her advice 'cos things have changed so much in twenty one years).  Anyway my beautiful bundle of joy arrived (breech after 36 hours I might add) and she is such a pleasure. The sheer inocence and joy she exudes is fantastic. Yes I'm exhausted and the teething is still ongoing, but I believe things happen for a reason, so as far as I'm concerned I think she was meant to be.

Being a mum is hard work but you realise what's important as you get older; being with people who love you unconditionally, and family, what more could I ask?
