The Roaring Ford Focus ST

The Ford Focus has been manufactured since 1998 by the Ford Motor Company. It became the world’s best selling model in the first six months of the year 2012. The Ford Focus engine is a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-liter unit that produces 252 hp and a 270 lb-ft of torque. It gives 0-60mph in just 6.3 seconds, faster than the Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi turbo diesel engine which takes 9.3 seconds to go to 0-60mph. In the over-boost mode, an additional 15 lb-ft torque is achieved for up to 15 seconds. Six-speed manual gearbox with front wheel drive is the only option available. The CO2 emission is just 169g/km.

In most cars, when all that power is going to the front wheels, it would be a recipe for massive torque steer but in the Focus ST,that is not the case, thanks to the Torque Vectoring Control (TVC). To increase the agility and control in the Focus ST, Ford’s Sport Steering System is used which consists of a Variable-Ratio Steering Rack, brake torque is applied to the inner wheels in the standard system, cornering control is achieved through the enhanced system by applying steering pressure more aggressively when traveling through a corner, reducing under-steer and allowing for more traction. The chassis is lowered by 10mm for more aggressive stance by improving the anti-roll bar design and upgraded shock absorbers and springs.

The Focus ST also serves up great mileage i.e. in city 23 miles per gallon and on highway 32 miles per gallon in addition to wild thrust and nimble handling. It boasts a new unique version of Ford’s signature trapezoidal grille which is more elegant than the standard Focus cars. There is also a roof spoiler and a hexagonal center-exit exhaust pipe that gives the rear fascia a unique and elegant look. The car is equipped with aluminum pedals, ST-specific steering wheel and gearshift and Recaro sports seats in full or partial leather. To provide more support in the sporty drive mode, rear seats are re-designed and sculpted.

The Focus ST2 has a satellite navigation system, a Sony audio system, ambient lighting, HD radio, HID headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated mirrors, folding side mirrors. The Focus ST also has a sound symposer box to enrich the sounds of the engine. In part throttle, the symposer keeps the mechanical noise to a minimum whereas under full throttle, engine noise is amplified through the symposer box giving it the roaring effect. To ensure the safety of its passengers, every Focus ST comes with standard dual front and side airbags and side curtain.
