On Sunday Agnieszka Radwanska beat Venus Williams 6-4, 6-2 in Montreal, Canada. It was the first time a Polish player won the Rogers Cup. Agnieszka made history in a way.

This was an ascending tournament for Agnieszka as she played only better from match to match. According to her, she felt a lot of strengths during the final; she knew she could make it. Meanwhile, Venus did the opposite. Each match took her a lot of effort. By the time she had to play in the final, she was exhausted.

I was tired because I played so many matches, a couple thousand hours on the court,” said Williams, “I was winning too many matches. I haven’t had that problem for a long time.”

There was a rather difficult encounter with her sister – Serena – on Friday. Those three sets were a serious struggle for Venus. Eventually, she wasn’t both physically and emotionally ready for the final.

However, Venus saw the bright side of whole situation. This was the first time she ever been to Montreal. She realized that she fell in love with this city. Venus officially stated that from now on Montreal would be her second favorite city after Rome.

As you can see, Agnieszka was full of energy and goal oriented, while Venus (figuratively speaking) was drained. Some might say that age was a key factor here: Agnieszka – in her best age (25); while Venus – coming closer to the end of her career (34). In addition, Venus has played by one match more than Agnieszka.

This year, there were 181,996 spectators at the Rogers Cup; almost by 10.000 more than the previous year. Agnieszka Radwanska won $441,000, whereas Williams $220,000.

As I mentioned above, the event took place in Canada, so of course there were many expectations from Eugenie Bouchard. Unfortunately, she was out after she lost the very first match. Anyway, there is another event coming next week – Cincinnati.
