Religious charities are often thought of as being run by pious people who set out to preach at everyone they meet. But that is so not true as they actually fill a lot of different needs and show that christianity is not just about reading the bible and going to church every Sunday.

They do want to share the gospel with the people they are helping but they also provide a lot of comfort to those who are in need, the elderly, sick and lonely.

Compass International may not be familiar to everyone but they are a religious charity that acts as a child advocacy ministry that helps children all over the world to become fulfilled christian adults. It was founded by Rev Everett Swanson in 1952 to provide Korean war orphans with food, shelter and education whilst training them to become christians.

One of the best-known religious charities whose sole purpose is to help spread christianity are the Jehovah's Witnesses. They spend a lot of time knocking on doors hoping to convert residents to their nontrinitarian beliefs which are different from mainstream christianity.

They are unpopular with some people who dislike their door-to-door preaching but many people follow their beliefs and they do offer comfort to many elderly people who welcome their call because they may be the only people they have seen all day.

The Salvation Army is an excellent example of a religious charity who helps to spread Christianity through their work rather than their preaching. They actively reach out to help the lonely and isolated people, especially at Christmas.

CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales and their mission is to work alongside the poorest people in the world without preaching.

They believe the best way to demonstrate true catholic values is by their work and they also believe in the importance of prayer in peoples lives. As they work with the various citizens of the world they demonstrate how prayer can help them and offer them guidance and inspiration.
