Coffee is a beverage that has enjoyed world recognition since its earliest beginnings in the 15th century.  It is currently cultivated and grown in 70 countries.  However, it is most commonly found in Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa.  In fact, several third world countries (i.e. Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Burundi) depend heavily on the revenue from the sale of coffee as their primary source of income.

Coffee is made from a small berry that is picked and dried, then roasted to various degrees.  Then the seeds (called beans) are brewed in water to make the coffee beverage. 

Coffee is one the most highly traded commodities in the world and has a stimulating effect on humans because of the caffeine it contains.  Due to its popularity around the world, it is considered one of the most sought after and consumed beverages today.

Coffee can be served in many ways. Some of the more popular include;Black, or white in which milk and or sweetener is added. When served cold, it is referred to as iced coffee. Irish coffee is coffee combined with whiskey and cream, often further sweetened with sugar.

Cappuccino is a coffee-based drink made with espresso, to which hot milk, and steamed milk foam has been added.

Caffé latte differs from Cappuccino in that it contains more milk a 2:1 ratio of steamed milk and espresso. Coffee milk is similar to chocolate milk; rather than chocolate syrup, coffee syrup is used. It is actually the official drink of Rhode Island in the United States.

Café miel is made with espresso, steamed milk, cinnamon, and honey. The word miel means “honey” in French.

Starbucks, an American company made flavored coffee very popular.  They created an assortment of blended iced beverages, that included flavors like caramel, chocolate, vanilla and other fruit flavors.  You are sure to find a flavor you will enjoy.

In addition to beverages, coffee has been incorporated into many desserts, cookies and candies , making coffee extremely versatile in cooking as well as entertaining. Coffee lends itself to so many variations and flavors that many people around the world can enjoy the varied tastes that it offers.
