It’s a testament to the advances made in car design over the past couple of decades that there are so many excellent quality used vehicles on the road today. There are many advantages and disadvantages to consider when deciding whether to exchange your old car for a new one.  Owners of both new Honda cars and older cars of the same make and model could debate at length on the issue. Over a period of years or even decades some people may form an emotional attachment to a vehicle that has seen them through both good and bad times. So is it time for a change or has the old girl still got a few good years left in her?

A primary consideration when dealing with older cars is financial; in some cases the car is already bought and paid for. This can ease the monthly budget of most households and free up money to save or use elsewhere. Familiarity with the vehicle is also a solid reason for sticking with a known quantity. Over the years you get to know all the little quirks and issues that crop up from time to time and you can address them as they arise. If you’re in the market to buy a car, a second hand used model offers a lower entry level price to get you on the road.

There are some downsides to sticking with an older car or buying one second hand however. No matter how reliable the make and model of car you own or choose, the fact is that older vehicles are more likely to suffer defects. This can lead to more time spent off road for the vehicle whilst it’s being repaired, possibly costing you more than the money saved on buying a newer model. Occasionally someone may purchase an inferior older vehicle with faults that are quite well known in the automotive industry.  These “hidden” faults can surprise you at the most inopportune time and leave you with a large repair bill, or in the most extreme cases the loss of a car that it is not economically viable to fix.

Buying a new car is a great feeling as you are the only person to have owned the vehicle, there’s also that new car smell to enjoy. On new Honda cars you get all the advantages of the latest technology. Recent advances in fuel efficiency and hybrid models could vastly lower your monthly fuel bill. Most modern vehicles will come with a warranty and free initial servicing for peace of mind. The advances in engineering may mean that apart from checking your fluid levels and tyre pressures there won’t be that much for you to do initially, allowing you to concentrate on your driving. Depending on the model and dealership there may be special deals and offers that you can take advantage of.
