Badrinath is a small town in Chamoli district and also a nagar panchayat. One of the holy pilgrimages of Chardham Yatra Badrinath shrine is devoted to Lord Vishnu. In about 9th century this shrine was founded by Shri Adi shankaracharya. The main attraction point at here is Shrine which has unique and gorgeous in architectural style. Inside shrine there is a black stone statue of Lord Vishnu seated on a golden canopy under a Badri tree. This has a small cupid that’s 15m high on the top with gold gilt roof. Before temple there is Tapt kund that’s said to be before entering temple you have to take a bath in this kund. In Parsad at Badrinath temple you will get dry fruit, sugar candy and tulsi. From Badrinath shrine there is a fantastic and panoramic view of Neelkanth Mountain. 

Nearby to Mandakini river, Kedarnath another holy shrine of Chardham that’s has a beautiful shrine made of huge strong stones. Kedarnath shrine is devoted to Lord Shiva. The reach Kedarnath town you have to take a ride of horses or palanquin or should be go by walk from Gaurikund that’s about 7km. And you can also take helicopter ride from Gaurikund to Kedarnath town. At here the most prominent is Udar Kund, according legend this kund is a mixture of five oceans and is still fresh from a long time. Place nearby Kedaranth temple to see is a shrine of Bhairava about which said that pilgrims make jump to death from the cliff of Bhairava shrine to get salvation. But in 19th century British govt. had banned it.   

Gangotri is another dham of Chardham that’s near to the origin of River Ganga. You will reach Gangotri via Uttarakashi that’s known as the doorway to Gangotri Dham. As per the legends at here goddess Ganga comes down from the heaven to earth to get release the ancestors of King Bhagiratha from their sins. The Gangotri shrine at present is built by Amar Singh Thapa who was general in Gurkha. The origin of river Ganga is Gaumukh that’s 19 km far from Gangotri.

Yamunotri Dham is the dham that’s pilgrims visit first in Chardham Yatra and then after Gangotri, Kedarnath and finally Badrinath in a clockwise way. They way of doing Chardham Yatra is known as “Parikarma”. Yamunotri shrine is the base of holy river Yamuna. The Yamunotri shrine at here has a beautiful black marble statue of Goddess Yamunotri. To get reach here you have to take trek of 3.8 miles trek from Janki chatti and 8.2 miles from Hanuman chatti. If don’t want to do trek by walk you can heir horse or palanquins from there. Surya kund and Gauri kund are two hot springs at Yamunotri.

At Yamunotri shrine after worshipping the goddess Yamuna the priest distributes parsad and in parsad you will get cooked rice and potatoes.
