5 Fast Foods You Photo by Cheyenne Wright

Call me oblivious, but I pretty much thought that every fastfood chain around the world served up the same or similiar menu. Have you ever wondered if the same menu at the fast food outlet in your country is the same menu elsewhere? Afterall it is the same chain of companies. The restaurants may look familiar, but the similarities some times ends there. Chains wishing to operate in a new country generally follows a strategy known as localization, this is tailoring their menus to fit local tastes. They cater to their customers, and they make sure to account for local tastes, cultural preferences and religious backgrounds.

These foreign menus usually contain items that we simply can't get at our local establishments. While others contain upscale dishes that we never dreamed would be offered at a drive-thru.

Take a look at some of the food items available only in other countries.

Wendy's Japan

Imagine having lobster-topped burgers. Sounds good right? I bet it tastes even better. Well the Caviar & Lobster Burger and the Lobster Surf & Turf Burger are apart of Wendy's Japan Ocean Premium menu, which also include an Ocean Premium Salad that contains lobster chunks along with lobster salad, caviar, avocado and egg. Their Japan Premium menu also contains a burger topped with foie gras and truffle sauce.

Burger King Japan

Japan's love of kaiju (monster) movies may be the inspiration behind the Meat Monster. This is a sandwich available at Burger King only in Japan. When people want to put something on their burgers, they usually think of toppings like cheese, bacon, onions and tomatoes. The geniuses at Burger King put all of that on, then decided to throw on a chicken breast, that is surely one beast of a burger.

KFC (Australia, Germany, South Africa)

KFC customers in locations such as Australia, Germany, South Africa and other countries offer a line of dessert drinks known as Krushers. These come in flavors such as mango, strawberry, Kit Kat and Triple Choc Crunch. The drinks are mixed with large chunks of fruit or candy (including sliced-up strawberries and Oreo cookies). They also come with extra-wide straws to slurp up the chunks.

Pizza Hut Middle East

In the Middle East, Cone Crusts pizza boast doughy cones of cheese, cream cheese or chicken (or all three!) baked into the crust. Now this must taste delicious. Seems I need to pay the Middle East a visit.

KFC Singapore

The Kentucky Fried Chicken in Singapore serves up all the items you would expect to find at an American KFC including fried chicken, cole slaw, mashed potatoes. But there are a few items that you wouldn't find any where else. Not only do the KFCs in Singapore serve seafood, but they serve it in fun shapes like the Shrimp Star or the Fish Donut.
