Unanimously regarded as India’s most prolific run scorer and cricketer- Sachin Tendulkar retired from the Indian Cricket One Day International scene, drawing the curtain on twenty three years of a golden career. He cited his need to concentrate better on Test series as a reason for retiring at the age of thirty nine. He has already stopped playing in the twenty 20 series. His numerous plaudits and records that he has over his entire career have helped create a legacy that is pretty hard to live up to. It was a sad day in the history of Indian cricket when curly haired phenom decided to call it quits. As we say farewell to our favorite cricketer, it is important that we know and understand the legend a little better. Here are some interesting facts that might interest you:

• Sachin was named after another great personality of India- SD Burman. Sachin father was apparently a huge fan of the great musician’s music.

• Sachin Tendulkar himself is a huge fan of John Monroe. Initially he used grow his hair long and tie a nad around it, emulating his idol.

• Sachin birth date is April 24, 1973.

• He made his international test debut on November 15, 1989, in a match against Pakistan at Karachi.

• During the match he wore the pair of pads that was gifted to him by his cricket idol- Sunil Gavaskar.

• His first Test hundred was acquired on August 14, 1990 against England at Old Trafford, when he was just 17.

• When asked about his dream women, Sachin replied without so much as batting an eyelid, “My wife”.

• In his childhood, he wanted to be a tennis player or a fast bowler in cricket.

• Sachin Tendulkar's profile is filled with a number of records that he helped re write.

• He scored five test centuries, all before the age of twenty.

• He uses a very heavy bat at crease weighing at 3.2lbs.

• He started small. His first car was a Maruti 800.

• Sachin was gifted  a Ferrari 360 Modena by F1 champion Michael Schumacher in 2002 in honour of him beating  Don Bradman’s record of 29 Test centuries.

• He is so possessive of his Ferrari that he doesn’t even let his wife drive the car.

• He is a known prankster. Once he put a hose pipe into Saurav Ganguly room and turned the tap on. Ganguly awoke to find his gear floating.
