Master of Business Administration (MBA or M.B.A.) is a master's degree in business administration which is very popular course across the world.  The core courses in the MBA program are designed to introduce students to the various areas of business such as accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, operations and production management, etc. Many Business schools in India and other countries offer MBA programs tailored to full-time, part-time, executive, and distance learning students.

Many business schools in India base their admission decisions on an applicant's performance on the entrance exam such as CAT, CET, SNAP, NMAT, XAT etc followed by Group Discussion rounds and Personal Interview.  Typically, MBA first part or first year, focuses on Generalized knowledge and covers subjects such as accounting, economics, operations research, organizational behaviour, statistics, financial management, human resource management, marketing management, operations management. In the second part (second year) students pursue a specialized curriculum. Specialization includes stream such as Human Resource (HR), Finance, Marketing, Operations/Production etc.

After completion of 1st year of MBA Programme, students are often asked to submit Project report. Student does research for a particular company. The company can have something that they feel like they need to improve, or the student can choose a topic within the company themselves. The results of the research study will be put in a report and often will have to be presented. Students often see it as a way to develop their capabilities by practically applying the academic elements of their degree and as an opportunity to learn about the work environment.

Remember, all MBA degrees are not equal: while a rigorous MBA course from a reputed institute can be your passport to a fat-salaried job at India Inc, there are many lowly-rated institutes from where getting even a halfway decent job is a pipe dream.

Accordingly to one of the professors from Mumbai “Enrolling for different MBA courses is the best way for the candidate to learn how to build and mould innovative organizations. It teaches the learners how to go about analyzing management techniques and paves the way for building managerial perspectives. It also elucidates how the economy works within a society.”

So if you are determined to work in these specific sectors and would like to take up managerial positions, sectoral MBAs can be a great choice.

Remember, MBA is not just a degree, much more in fact. It helps you find yourself and the capability within.
