Kylie at Abbey Road
Abbey Road Studios in St John's Wood, Greater London are the most famous recording studios in the world mainly because of their connection with the Beatles. Many people visit there just to pose on the zebra crossing where the historical photograph of the four members of the Beatles was taken.
So when one of the world's most popular singers decides to record a new album there it is bound to attract a lot of attention. Kylie Minogue's The Abbey Road Sessions was released on CD on October 24th 2012 and has been produced to celebrate her 25 years in show business. She has actually been connected with entertainment for longer than that because who can forget the big-haired Charlene in Neighbours which first made her a household name.
The album is a re-mix of some of the most notable songs she has performed throughout her long career and has the backing of her own band as well as a full orchestra. It has received mixed music reviews with some of the critics calling it cheesy, others finding the backing chosen for some of the songs slightly strange.
But this is an album which will appeal to die-hard Kylie fans of all ages. Her older fans will love to remember what they were doing in in 1987 when Locomotion was first released and can also wallow in nostalgia with I Should Be So Lucky.
It was Kylie's personal choice to invite Australian musician Nick Cave to join her to re-record their duet Where the Wild Roses Grow for The Abbey Road Sessions and Confide in Me is sung to an accompaniment of strings and a sitar which works very well.
The ballad Hand on My Heart is sung to a guitar backing which makes it very moving and all Kylie fans will enjoy this. There are 18 songs on the album which plays for 55 minutes. It came into the UK charts at number two so the public obviously ignored the music reviews and made up their own minds. In Australia it reached number seven in the Australian album charts and number three in the Australian artist charts.
