Skyfall is the 23rd Bond Film and is one of the best in this long-running series. Daniel Craig returns to play 007 and Dame Judi Dench reiterates her role as M. It is no secret that the UK's Grand Dame of the theatre has decided not to do any more Bond films but her exit from MI6 is a well-kept secret.

As 2012 is the 50th anniversary of Bond there are some very exciting special effects and it was good to see the return of 007's silver Aston Martin complete with all guns blazing from the headlights.

This is different from previous Bond films as 007 is not fighting his own personal enemy, the threat comes from M's past and Craig and Dench fight the adversary together. To have two of the UK's greatest actors working in tandem is a brilliant idea and they never fail to deliver.

Craig is a splendid Bond and even those devotees of the first 007 Sean Connery will find him an acceptable hero. When it was first announced that M was to be played by a woman die-hard Bond fans held up their hand in horror but Judi Dench has been perfect in the role and her absence from future Bond films will be most noticeable.

It was an act of genius to cast a young actor as Q as it produces some of the funniest lines in the film as Bond does not believe this youngster,  hardly out of his teens, can possibly supply the equipment he needs to protect MI6. Ben Wishaw, one of the UK's finest actors and a product of the National Youth Theatre is very well cast.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem is an excellent villain, where would Bond be without them, and Berenice Marlohe is the statutory Bond girl. Where this film is different to the numerous Bond films of yesteryear is the girl does not play such a prominent part in the story. Naomi Harris is the other female who catches his eye, she plays a fellow agent but film-goers will get a surprise when her true identity is revealed at the end of the movie.

Skyfall is a long film with a running time of 2 hours, 23 minutes but the time flies as it is pleasing to the eye with stunning scenery, great special effects and an enjoyable evening at the movies.
