Submersible Pumps are centrifugal pumps comprising of downhole motors. These pumps are used in several domestic, agricultural and industrial applications for lifting water or oils from wells or underground surfaces. The motor of the pumps is sealed and lies close to the pump body. The whole assembly of the pump is submerged in water. They push fluid to the surface unlike the jet pumps that pull the fluids. The Submersible Pumps are more efficient than the jet pumps.

There are several types of Submersible Pumps used for different applications. So, let us look at some of the most common ones in detail below.

Types Of Submersible Pumps

  • Open Well Submersible Pumps- These pumps are specially designed for under water applications. Hence, they do not require any foot valve or priming. However, they can be used for other applications too. These pumps are suitable for pumping water from deep wells and tanks where water fluctuation is a common problem. They are very easy to install and even the maintenance is very easy for these pumps. They can withstand voltage fluctuations ranging between 200-400 volts. Their parts are easily replaceable allowing for a longer life.
  • Polder Submersible Pumps- They are portable pumping units having the pump below and the motor above construction. These pumps are powered by a squirrel cage induction motor while the motor windings are resistant to water and oil. They are also resistant to the ingress of moisture and water due to the seal in motor allowing the pump to work consistently without any damage. They are most commonly used in heavy-duty applications like drainage from riverbed, dewatering of mines and collieries, storm water pumping, lift irrigation from canals and other applications.
  • SS Submersible Pumps– All the integral parts of these Submersible Pumps are made from stainless steels. They are made by cold pressing from the stainless steel sheets. The bearings are resistant to wear and abrasion as they are made from high nitrile content rubber. They are used in general and domestic water supplies, fountains and water displays, drip irrigation and sprinkler systems, etc. Due to the use of stainless steel in their construction, they are quite durable and resistant to corrosion.
