All You Need To Know About Electrical Cables Photo by Ashish  Poly

In our day-to-day lives, electricity and the sources that transfer electric current play a silent, yet important role everyday. Our day begins with the use of these transmitters, and also ends with them. Right from ceiling fans, tube-lights, bulbs and electronic appliances in the kitchen to electronic gadgets in our bedrooms and bathrooms, these transmitters of electricity – CABLES and WIRES, are used everywhere. We may ignore the importance of these cables in our hectic schedules, but it is necessary to have a basic knowledge about these cables for a safe electrical house wiring. If we ignore the basic knowledge related to home safety, then our families will live under a constant threat to life!

The electrical cables are mainly used for power transmission in buildings and industrial sites, and in our homes. They are used over long distances, as well. These cables are needed in every corner where human population exists, because they are one of the basic necessities for every individual. These cables consist of an assembly of one or more conductors that are made with their individual coverings, assembly protection and protective coverings or insulation and optional screens. These cables are made more flexible by twisting or braiding smaller individual wires together. This procedure leads to one large flexible wire, that is stronger than a solid wire of a similar size. It is advisable to bunch small wires together before the process of concentric stranding starts, for the flexibility of electric cables. This flexibility helps the cable reach every nook and corner of the building, office or home.

During building construction or house electrical wiring, it is important to use these cables carefully. The electrical cable jacket material is a potential source of adding fuel to the fire. Use of cable coating materials or cable jackets that are inherently fire-retardant, are beneficial to limit the spread of fire. During the time of installation, the plastic covering metal-clad cables are stripped off to reduce the fuel sources of fire. Another way to reduce the chances of a fire outbreak is, to use inorganic coatings and boxes around cables; this will safeguard the adjacent areas from fire threats. It is also important to have a thin layer of protection, as a fat layer can cause a heat trap.

Every wire company in India, makes sure that they provide their customers with the safest wires and cables. They possess a wide range of cable types like Heliax cables, flexible cables, direct buried cables, communication cables, coaxial cables, metallic and non-metallic sheathed cables, shielded cables, etc. These are the various types of cables that are electric in nature and are available in the market. It is very important to give safety the first priority, and ensure that our house is wired with great safety for a healthy life.
