Ever felt a little lost as though you don’t know where you are going, or even wonder how you got where you are in the first place? Don’t worry, you aren’t alone. We all feel like that at times. The important thing to remember is that you will have better days; you simply have to take stock and give yourself time to think about what you really want out of life.

I have a friend who is almost 40 and single. She’s unhappy about this fact. The truth is that she’s suffered from depression from the loneliness that she often feels. But do you know what? Despite her ups and downs, she keeps busy. She goes on holidays by herself which can take a certain amount of courage because she often has to explain why she’s holidaying alone. When she tells people she’s single they can look at her a little strangely and dare I say it, with sympathy? Sometimes she holidays with her mum, but there must be something wrong with her, mustn’t there? I mean which 40 year old holidays with their mum?

That can be some people’s perception of the situation you see. However, despite this, my friend picks herself up and gets on with it. She doesn’t live in the past. So she’s still single. It really doesn’t matter. Many people are married but feel as though they are missing out on something. Some people are happily married but still feel in a rut from time to time. What my single friend has taught me is that we should all slow down a bit and not worry about what we’ve become or how we got here, not to mention where we might be going. We simply need to trust in ourselves and our dreams a little more.

We should have the courage to have new experiences during the moments when we get a little bored, even if it’s attempting to learn a new language before giving up, at least you will have tried. Most of all, however, perhaps we shouldn’t beat ourselves up so much if things don’t turn out the way you expected. Something quite wonderful could well be lurking around the next corner if you just believe.
