Shopping for dresses is difficult at the best of times. When you are shopping for your wedding dress, things change entirely. You are no longer shopping for a simple skater dress. You are shopping for a garment that you absolutely have to get right. Unfortunately, many brides make a number of shopping mistakes that prolong the experience and leads to them not finding the dress they want.

In this article, we are going to look at some of the major mistakes brides make when shopping for wedding dresses.

1) Trying On Too Many
You want to limit the number of dresses you try on and the number of shops you visit. Psychologists believe brides who try on every dress are simply trying to prolong the shopping experience. Before you know it, you have lost track of what you were originally going to buy. You do not know what you want anymore and you have lost focus.

This is where brides commonly become frustrated because they cannot find something that is good enough for them.

2) Deeply Discounted Dresses
We have all seen those garments in bridal shop windows with over half of the price knocked off. Naturally, it already has us interested. It is easy to spend thousands of pounds on a dress. One area where you do not want to scrimp is with the dress.

The gowns with the big discounts are often the samples you see in the shops. Hundreds of brides before have tried on these cheap dresses. You may find there are rips, weaknesses at the seams, or stains. This is truly a second-hand dress.

Avoid them because this is one area where you really do pay for what you get.

3) Know the Sizes
Brides are always so hung up on the sizes of their clothes. For most of us, it is a pride thing. We want to have the lowest size possible so we feel good about ourselves. With wedding gowns, it’s not something to worry about. They don’t have the same sizes as street clothes.

In general, you can expect a dress to be between one and two sizes smaller than your street clothes. Do not demand the wrong size just because you want to brag about how you can fit into a size four. What you do need to worry about is your exact measurements on the designer’s chart. A wedding dress has to be able to fit your figure. It needs to mould itself to your body if you are going to get the most out of it.

Fast Rules for Buying Dresses

  • Know your price range. You do not want to splash all your cash on a dress, whilst leaving nothing for the actual wedding festivities.
  • Be aware of the theme or dress code for your wedding. You want to fit in.
  • Be open minded about the dresses on offer. You might find something better than you had ever thought about.
  • Wear the right underwear. Different bras, for example, can drastically alter your measurements.
  • Skip the entourage. Too many followers can completely ruin the experience.
