Long Tradition
Aside from delivering a motorsport inspired punch, the new sports car engine is following in the tradition of core competence of AMG at their Affalterbach, Germany plant. The plant has been a trendsetter in the innovation and production of high performance engines. Power and Efficiency

Auxiliary fittings that are effectively powered by two short minimal friction belts with four grooves. The strategic positioning of the auxiliary units is designed to neutralize the belt forces on the crankshaft.
Active engine mounts made to produce perfect lateral dynamics, in addition to driving comfort.
Two large flywheels with centrifugal pendulum designed to eliminate the occurrence of torsional vibration while driving in order to ensure a smooth ride.

The stability of the new AMG 4.0 literV8 engine is derived from the use of lightweight forged pistons and rigid crankcase. The inner cylinder walls are lined with innovative Nanoslide coating to help reduce friction losses; the system also features a dry sump lubrication technology. The front mid-engine does not utilize the conventional oil pan, it instead it moves the engine to the center of gravity and closer to the road. The resulting effect is high lateral acceleration and significant improvement in the driving dynamics. To keep the unit mutual compacted; the engines two turbochargers are located inside the hot inner V8 engine compartment. The precision routing of fresh air from the atmosphere into the exhaust turbo chargers provides an exceptional engine response and driving thrill.

Innovation and Craftsmanship
The AMG 4.0 liter V8 biturbo engine is made according to the traditional Daimler principle “One man, one engine”. This principle is evident in the handcrafted biturbo V-8 which boasts 510 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque, together with excellent fuel efficiency, high power to weight ratio a compact design, high power to weight ratio and a unique AMG sound. The highly qualified fitters at the Affalterbach assembly plant follow some of the strictest quality standards laid down by the industry.
