There are dozens and dozens of different sunscreen products on the shelves in drug stores, megastores, and supermarkets. When it is warm outside, it is pretty easy to remember to think about protection from the sun’s harmful rays. If you are going to the pool or lake, you grab the sunscreen automatically and put it in your bag. If you are sending your children to camp or outside to play, you really don’t even think twice about slathering them in sunscreen. In addition to our children there other people who need to be particularly concerned about the sun – outdoor workers.

Maybe this is not something you’ve considered before – but the impact of the sun’s rays are worth restating, particular skin cancer dangers. For men, who tend to make up the majority of outdoor workers, doctors report seeing many of these cancers beginning on the back and/or neck. More than 3.5 million skin cancer cases are diagnosed each year. The most deadly of these cancers is Melanoma.

Most of these cancers could have been prevented by using sunscreen. If caught early, treatment of this cancer is very favorable. However, while many innovations in treating skin cancers have occurred, certainly no one wants to put his or her family through this experience! Prevention is always the best treatment. Cancer is not the only result of sun damage. Harmful sun exposure can also lead to cataracts and affect the immune system as well.

The sun is getting stronger this time of year, which means the danger grows greater at this season. Sunscreen is recommended to anyone who is going to be outside for more than fifteen minutes a day. That certainly applies to all outside workers. Additionally, sunscreen is needed whether it is a particularly sunny day or not. One of the common mistakes leading to sunburn is to assume that because the day is cloudy, you don’t need sunscreen. The opposite is the case!

In fact, up to 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds. This and many other myths about the sun, such as thinking that because you have a tan you are “protected” from further sun damage, lead to sunburn and overexposure to harmful rays.

Unfortunately, most outdoor workers do not realize they have a stronger and better product available to them. Instead of using weaker formulas not designed with your job needs in mind, your best option is Industrial Strength Sunscreen. This product is formulated with zinc oxide, which allows the user to go immediately outside rather than waiting the typical 15 – 30 minutes before exposure. Unlike products available on the typical supermarket shelf, industrial strength sunscreen is available in a range of sizes from gallons to individual packs, making application easy and convenient. Making industrial strength sunscreen available on the job site is a quick way to take care of your outdoor workers – and a necessary thing to do.

To those whose jobs involve being outside for most of the day, sun safety is a potential life saver!
