With the millennia of history behind us, Europe tours have some of the most amazing churches to visit. Every Europe holiday package will have one or two at least. Though, Christians will have their own personal religious reasons to visit these churches, for the rest of the travellers, these churches represent a piece of history, valuable insight into cultural era, the finest architecture and some of the masterpieces in the history of human kind. So, when you get a chance to explore one of them, dive into it wholeheartedly. 

SagradaFamilia:

This is one of the largest Roman Catholic Church in Spain. Though the construction of this church isn’t complete this church is a prominent UNESCO World Heritage Site. The architecture is an exquisite blend of Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. This church is a living masterpiece of the Antoni Gaudi – a shining example of his creativity and style.  This church has three grand facades; each depicting different concepts and designs. Along with the nativity facade, passion facade and glory facade, the roof of the church is intriguingly enriching.

St. Peter’s Basilica:

Consecrated in 1626, this church witnesses exquisite influence of Renaissance era. This is the holiest Catholic site and one of the largest churches in the world as well. This church in Vatican City is must-visit for most European tours. Even the group European holiday packages include a visit to this church for the sheer beauty and sacred value. The pope presides over number the ceremonies in St. Peter’s Basilica, which draws significant audience to this church. This glorious church is primarily designed by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Bernini. Notre  Dame Cathedral:

Also known as Notre Dame de Paris, this historic catholic cathedral is recognized as the finest example of French –gothic architecture. Compared to the Romanesque architecture in earlier era, its stained glass design and natural look of the sculptures is surprising contrast. Started in 1160, the construction of this church completed in 1345. Today, it stands as a piece of from the French-gothic era, highlighted by its facades, organs and high-alter. Notre Dame is a very common destination on European holiday packages. However, all Europe tours do not include enough time to enjoy the nuances of its architecture such as south rose windows or the famous gargoyles.

Explored in their entirely, these churches have much more to share than the religious faith. The art, history and culture of the bygone era reveal the real opulence of the times.
